An art deco black tie event raised more than $60,000 for people in need in Hawke’s Bay last month.
More than 160 people attended the Tremains Winter Charity Party, held at Sileni Estate Winery on May 26, which raised money for the Tremains Community Trust.
Managing director Simon Tremain said it was great to see so many people in Hawke’s Bay willing to get out their cheque books to support others in the community who would really benefit from the helping hand.
“Our fundraiser cemented the generosity and support fellow Hawke’s Bay residents have for each other – it’s humbling to see,” he said.
The amount of money raised through the auction on the evening and through sponsorship of the event has meant they will be able to help more people than last year.
“Last year, there was not one situation where tears didn’t flow when calling around the deserving recipients, to be able to do that again but on a larger scale is absolutely fantastic.”
The night, themed as an Art Deco black tie dinner, was MC’d by Auckland-based comedian Jeremy Elwood and included performances by the Deco Dancers and the Dave Atkin Group.
“Jeremy added to the atmosphere, keeping the crowd amused over the course of the night,” Mr Tremain said.
Bayswater Vehicles owner Rob Townshend said he was pleased to be a gold sponsor of the Tremains Winter Charity Party and to help towards the fundraising efforts.
“This charity actively helps people who are in need in the Hawke’s Bay community and we are glad to be in a position to support Simon and the trust.”
The Tremains Community Trust is a registered charity established in 2016 to financially aid local individuals going through ill health or hardship issues and in need of some extra assistance.
Individuals need to be nominated by a third party, whether it is a friend, neighbour or someone they know through the community, and often do not know they have been nominated until they receive a phone call letting them know that they are a recipient.
In 2016, the Tremains Community Trust was able to help 22 recipients with a variety of donations ranging from food and petrol vouchers to school fees and dentist bills.
Nominations for third year open on June 16 and can be accessed through www.tremains.co.nz/events/tremains-community-trust/.
