Hundreds of amateur athletes, normally confined to an office desk, donned their wetsuits and brushed off their bikes for the annual Tremains Corporate Triathlon yesterday. In total, organisers said 1116 people took part in the event comprising 372 teams, with the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board entering 189 athletes.
Tremains Corporate Triathlon race director Brendon Lodge said organisers wanted to keep competitors involved throughout the 600m swim, 1700m kayak, 5km run, and 20km cycle legs. He said that like events in previous years, competitors also had the option of swimming or kayaking, while teams were entered in male, female and mixed categories.
“The numbers were slightly down on last year but at the end of the day we are very thankful for all the businesses that have contributed to this triathlon.”
Cityfitness Machines won the male swim team category with a time of 1:00:14, while Pulp Power, representing Pan Pac Forest Products Ltd, came second and Mr Apple Hard Core third.
